Synopsis
My first ever buddy read was quite the success! I read Local Woman Missing with my friend Alysha, or better known as @strawbeary.made on bookstagram. Thrillers have always been favorites of mine so I was stoked to give this one a go.
In a safe quiet neighborhood, a local woman goes missing. Shortly after, a young mother and her six year old daughter disappear as well. The search party only uncovers more questions before the case is eventually closed to remain unsolved.
Eleven years later, a now seventeen year-old, Delilah returns home. Her reappearance sparks more interest in the case, but no one is prepared for the secrets that unravel or how far one will go to protect the truth.
“No one has any reason to wish me dead. I’m an extremely conscientious woman, I’ve done nothing wrong.”
Favorites
I knew immediately I was going to love this book when I realized it had multiple POVs. My brain just loves to piece together two or more people and figure out how their stories intertwine. I admired that a queer couple was one of the main storylines too and really enjoyed their relationship. The author did an amazing job at painting each character a certain way to then twist everything towards the end!
“Death might be preferable to being taken by someone we don’t know.”
Final Thoughts
I was so pleased to have chosen this as Alysha and I’s buddy read! It was so much fun reading together, trying to guess all of the mysteries. I would highly recommend this book to my friends and anyone who enjoys an exciting thriller! The entire theme was so dark and enticing - the weather, the dark plot, the suspicions of every character involved. This story was really different than any other I have read recently and really enjoyed it!
“The absence of a no should never mean yes.”
