October wrap up

MONTHLY WRAP UP

MONTHLY WRAP UP 👻🍁

Spooky season was QUITE the success this year! As always, I overestimated how many books I would get through. HOWEVER, I did read more books this month than any other in 2024- a total of six reads! I was super proud of myself for this small feat and excited to finally have read more than four books in one month. That has been my average nearly all year, although it makes sense that the month dedicated to spooky scary books would be my top success! Here’s a brief summary of my October reads, but check out my Book Shelf page for full reviews on each book!

Average Rating: 3.92 ⭐

This month was full of amazing reads! My favorite was a buddy read done with a friend of mine and it was the first time I utilized the app Fable for book clubs. We read Local Woman Missing by Mary Kubica and I think it may end up being one of my favorites by the end of the year!

So Thirsty by Rachel Harrison was another top contender of the month. This book, though it took place in a modern setting, was giving me 80’s David Bowie vibes - along the lines of his movies The Hunger and Labyrinth. I read this one with my local book club and was the only one to truly enjoy it, but that didn’t bother me at all. I will still talk this book up for those who like eerie, sexy vampires!

I’m not counting Queen of Shadows as my longest book read this month because I utilized Audible to get through it. Currently, I’m mentally preparing for the tandem read of Empire of Storms and Tower of Dawn. For those who have already gotten through it, please tell me how you did it - and for those preparing as hard as I am - WE CAN DO THIS.

I am a huge fan of horror fiction and psychological thrillers so I was really pleased with my book choices this month.

So Thirsty was hard to pin into just one genre - I ended up putting it in horror fiction but it truly felt every bit of thrilling, some fantasy, a bit romantic, and even a tad comedic. I really LOVED this book and will probably reread it in the future.

My romance reads were slower this month but I was happy to finally begin Emily McIntire’s Never After series! I’ve had these books on my TBR forever and needed something to cleanse my horror palette. They’re definitely a little darker than I’m used to but I love to try something new! I’m currently working on Scarred and have really enjoyed picking out all of the pieces that are inspired by movie characters.

Overall, I’m super happy with my October reads and can’t wait to get into my cozy winter reads. Autumn and Winter are my two favorite seasons - they bring as much comfort to me as reading does so I just love combining the two. I can’t wait to share my next books with you guys - happy reading!
